On the way to school on Monday 2/24 I asked the boys, "What is a promise?"
It was somewhat of a foreign word to them, but not a foreign concept. I first asked the question and had to give them a little about what a promise is. I gave them examples from home about breaking and keeping promises. We used taking out the trash as our example. "If I promise to take out the trash and I forget, did I keep or break my promise?" Boys said, "You broke your promise."
So now that we got the concept I asked this question: "What has God promised us?"
Dylan: Jesus (which is going to be a correct Bible answer most of the time) but he went on that the promise for Jesus to die for our sins.
Brody: For God to give us the land
Brody: That God would never flood the earth again.
And then it was time for them to get out of the car and walk into school. What a blessing to my day to know that my boys know that God always keeps his promises and actually know what some of these promises are. The boys and I will continue this conversation. Maybe even when I pick them up from school. I want them to know about promises, because when they decide to make a decision to follow Christ and be baptized, this will be an important concept in their spiritual life.
